Science meets law

Dr. Dirk Franke combines a solid scientific education with many years of exceptionally broad technical practice in intellectual property. As a chemist with a doctorate, he handles matters across almost the entire spectrum of applied technology – from medical technology to mechanical and plant engineering to agricultural technology – acting for clients from Europe, North America and Asia.

His particular strength lies in translating between disciplines: he grasps inventions that combine chemistry, mechanics, electronics and software with technical precision, and turns them into robust, enforceable IP rights.

He trained as a patent attorney at two international Munich law firms in German and European patent law. He then worked as an attorney at a renowned US business law firm, handling prosecution, litigation and opinion work in Munich, Boston and Atlanta. This transatlantic experience continues to shape his advice to international clients today – including the strategic use of the European Unitary Patent.
